According to New Orleans’ legend, a local voodoo cult laid a hex on the world’s two most feared dictators during World War 2. One night in 1941, so the story goes, a voodoo priest and his nine assistants, all dressed in black, filed into a graveyard in New Orleans.
They performed a dark ceremony, which began with burying pictures of Hitler and Mussolini.
As the yellow moon rose, tall black candles were placed on the “graves” where the pictures were buried. After lighting the candles, the leader of the voodoo cult raised his arms to the moon.
While his assistants threw powders and ground up roots into the candle flames, he pronounced the curse: Death to Hitler by a bullet, and death to Mussolini by hanging.
