I’ll mail these over to Melissa and will get her to perform a simple ritual to personalize the working. She’d then place the poppet doll close to the shared wall or ceiling with her bad neighbors, leaving it to do its work.
I already had this

If all else fails in cases like this, I fix up a custom seven blackstones working to see off the annoying neighbors.
What is this ? How much ?

Hey Papa! Thanks for that - it's amazing how many stories like yours are around. As to explanations, I reserve judgment - and that includes the odd things I've seen and encountered, such as this one last year: http://www.doktorsnake.com/2009/09/29/ufos-over-norwich/

The first thing people think with ghosts is dead people... that may be the case and it may not. Bear in mind that people have created thoughtform entities or servitors, which for all intents and purposes appear real. I shall post a long article on thoughtforms soon, when I get time. There there's your own subconscious mind, which I typically describe as the powerhouse or magician within. The subconscious may or may not be connected to other realms of reality that we can't detect with material equipment. One thing is for sure, the subconscious can change the nature of your reality either for a short while, or long term - long term probably means you're crazy ;-) ... or rather you don't share consensus reality.

So the way I'd approach it is I'd see these experiences as part of the magickal realm, and await further data from your own experiments - and keep up with those of others.

But that's my opinion. Nothing more. You know best! -Doc

I can relate to this story because i experienced something quite similar. At about age 16,my grandfather had passed away in our 3-story apartment building due to a heart attack.Maybe months later,i was sleeping very sound and for no apparent reason opened my eyes to see a shadow figure standing right beside my bed!I could tell that it was a male apparition, with an athletic build, and maybe stood approximately 6 feet tall.I was so frightened that i just put the covers over my head.It didn't appear to be my grandfather at the age of his death but from his past photos during his youth,it could have been a match.Doc,if you have any possible explanation please tell and thanks! -Papa Brown

That's great info. I shall follow it all up. Like the story of the banjo/mandolin players! As you say, folk magic is all about results, that's the bottom line, hence traditions and preferences evolve. I've got quite a few old out-of-print books on gypsy lore, and you can see how they adapted their methods to suit the countries they were in.

Your welcome Dr S; you mentioned a possible Northern Traditon component to Hexerei. I know that modern practitioners include Runes but I’m not sure how relevant they are to, say 19th Century workers. The roots of Hexerei are clearly European with books by Agrippa and Magnus favoured.

The Long Lost Friend is the traditonal Powwow textbook par excellance, however like all ‘Grimoires’ it needs a core magickal training and the correct interpretation to make use of it! As a Bluesman it may interest you to know a couple of Bluegrass musicians (I know there is a difference, I’m a huge Delta Country Blues fan!) I came cross swore they allways kept a copy of the Long Lost Friend in their Banjo/Manadolin case for good luck. They say it is tradition.

Hang on there is a hoodoo connection to all of this! Hexerei practtioners, like their Hoodoo counterparts used the 6th & 7th Books of Moses and Selig’s Secret of the Psalms. Now psalms and candle burning are synomous with Hoodoo and Southern Rootwork and Conjure. Selig was a Millenial German Christian who emigrated to the Pennsylvania area in the late 1700’s. The area was rife for a long time with weird little Christian sects.

So I think that sort of underlines the difference between Hoodoo and Hexerei. One has a German Protestant feel to it and draws from the Medevial/Renaisscence European tradition, the other Catholic and African. Oh and although Hexerei uses herbs etc there is unfortunately no predisposition for the wonderful, powerful but elaborate Materica Esoterica of Hoodoo – no Botinacs or Spiritual supply shops there!

In the end of the day folk magick is results magick and if whatever system you use works – use it!

Thanks Prester! I'd forgotten about Powwowing, though I've only read about it, no first hand knowledge. Same with Hexenmeisters. Strong roots in Europe and you'd think to the runic notations and eddas. I shall see what I can find out about it. Got my interest up.

Thank you Dr Snake.Traiteurs are the Cajun flavour of the same folk healing practice found right across the US under different names. In Pennsylvania it’s practitioners are known as Brauchers. Brauche is also known as Powwowing.

Interestingly Traituers are to Hoodoo what Brauchers are to Hexerei in Pennsylvania (you may know it’s trade mark of Hex Signs; it’s practitioners are known as Hexenmeisters). The both use herbal remedies and charms. I studied Hexerei first hand in Lancaster County and neither it nor Powwowing appears to be dying out! However unlike Hoodoo there is not much interest in this Magickal Craft over here.

Great name! I shall make sure I address you as Papa Brown from now on. I really like magical names. The old bluesmen had them, Lightnin' Hopkins, Howlin Wolf, etc. And just about every hip-hop or rap artist has one, whether they see it that way or not. That's great in my book. It's empowering and artistic.
