The weather had taken a huge turn for the better, and I arranged to meet up with Doc at Alchemista. I needed to get some supplies, but know that Doc isn’t really one for retail therapy, even when they’re of a magickal nature, so it seemed wise to get them out of the way first.
As it turned out, Doc had been doing some retail therapy of his own for some new vaping items for his cache from Medusa and had a bag of tricks.
“What’s that you’ve been getting there?” he asked.
“Oh, it’s a new diffuser,” I answered. “I usually have one that looks like a witches cauldron, but now I have small feet and paws in the house I decided I needed a safer one.”
“Oh right,” he said, but was still obviously none the wiser.
When the weather is bad, and it’s difficult to get outside to clear your mind, a diffuser is a really good way to help with the focus to do crystal readings. You can use them for other purposes, but I find it really helps me to open my mind and read the symbols in the crystal.
Of course it helps too if you have a crystal that really resonates with you. Many people make the mistake of thinking the bigger the crystal, the better. I find though that the big boys are really more for show, but the smaller ones seem to have a more concentrated power. Also they’re far easier to carry around with you. I was lucky enough to find a perfect one in The Henge Shop in Avebury. It’s small and imperfectly formed, which is another important factor. Clear crystals may look pretty, but you need to have imperfections or “inclusions” in them to be able to give the spirits something to work with.
Such is the power of the one I found that as soon as I held it, after having held a few others, I shouted excitedly “THIS one is the baby!”
Doc pretended to not be with me, but the lady who had handed it to me smiled and said, “I told you that you would know when you found the right one.”
For this reason, you should never buy a random crystal online, as it really needs to feel right. Also unless you know it’s history, I would not buy a second-hand crystal, as you don’t know what you’re bringing into your workings. If you’re happy with its history that’s fine, or if you’re still particularly drawn to a particular one, you can always cleanse it thoroughly before you use it.
Anyway, back to the diffuser. I’ve found a mix that works very well for helping to open your third eye and so helps visualisation. If you have a diffuser, or are interested in giving it a try, all you need is:
- 5 drops of grapefruit oil
- 4 drops of juniper berry oil
- 1 drop of rosemary oil
If you don’t have an electrical diffuser, you can use an oil burner that uses a tea-light. Just add the oils to sufficient water to allow the oils to produce steam vapor.
I always use it now before and during the times that I do my crystal readings and it helps enormously.
If you feel like giving it a try, let me know what your results are. I’ll return to the subject of the third eye in another post, it’s a fascinating subject. But for now I’ll head back to my diffuser and some eucalyptus oil to try and soothe this cough I’ve developed …
