The place below

Via what I call the Obsidian Mirror, I descend the spiralling black ladder into the symbolic landscape of the Underworld.

The place of shadows.

The place of formations.

Ancient cultures gave this territory many names and populated it with gods, ancestors, shades, monsters and guardians.

I use another name.

Necrom.

Or, more correctly:

The God With No Name.

Why no name?

Because names define things.

They place boundaries around them.

This one is better left undefined.

Necrom isn't a deity requiring your worship, conversion or allegiance.

Think instead of an intelligence encountered at the furthest point of an underworld journey — the figure waiting beyond the final threshold.

The petitioner arrives with one thing.

One objective.

One alteration sought in the world above.

And negotiations begin.

The descent

The operation begins at a place of power.

Usually somewhere old.

A prehistoric landscape. An ancient track. A burial mound. A lonely church. A place where generations have passed and left almost nothing behind.

I clear ordinary thought and allow the internal landscape to form.

There is usually an entrance.

I've encountered it as a cave.

A grove.

A ruined structure.

A stone circle standing beneath an unfamiliar sky.

Beyond it lies what I call the Black Ladder.

Down.

Further down.

Until the familiar world has disappeared.

What happens there stays there.

There are parts of the Necrom operation I don't publish.

That is deliberate.

The important part is simple.

I carry your objective into the operation.

I petition on your behalf.

And I don't return until the encounter has reached its conclusion.

But returning from the Underworld isn't the end of Necrom.

It's the beginning of the second phase.

THE THREE STATIONS

Over the following three days, I travel to three separate locations of power.

At each location an old British penny is carried into the landscape and placed as an offering.

Day One :: First Station The first point is established.

Day Two :: Second Station The operation is carried across the landscape.

Day Three :: Third Station The final penny is placed and the triangle closes.

Three locations.

Three days.

Three points upon the Earth.

The work that began in the imaginal Underworld is brought back into physical geography.

The operation is complete.

THE BLACK SIGNAL

A few minutes each day.

The purpose is to prevent the mind continually undoing its own direction through doubt, compulsive checking and endless internal commentary.
