The world is becoming a strange place. Old certainties dissolve. Institutions wobble. Technology accelerates. The future arrives faster than anyone can comfortably predict.
The Doomers doom. The Bloomers bloom. And somewhere in between, the Bedlam Clowns are running around with the keys to the kingdom.
But you don't have to join the circus.
There is another position: the Crystalline Pinpoint.
A place of balance between Chaos and Order. Not a compromise or an escape, but a position from which you can move deliberately in either direction without surrendering yourself to either extreme.
Too much Order becomes rigidity, stagnation and tyranny. Too much Chaos becomes confusion, disintegration and madness. Neither is a place to live.
The trick is to remain at the centre — able to draw upon both forces without becoming their prisoner.
On New Year's Eve, 31 December 2026, I will conduct a special working in the ancient landscape between Brandon and Santon Downham, Suffolk, where prehistoric earthworks and a medieval church stand at the edge of the wild forest.

The landscape: where the wild meets the ordered world
At the edge of Santon Downham stands St Mary's Church, with stonework dating back to the twelfth century. Beside the village, the forest begins. The church occupies a striking threshold between human settlement and the older, less predictable world of the woods.
Above its south doorway is an enigmatic Norman carving, sometimes interpreted as a wolf and the Tree of Life. I think of it as the Guardian Beast — my own name for a figure whose precise meaning remains uncertain.
This landscape knows what it means for Chaos to intrude upon Order. Centuries ago, windblown sand overwhelmed parts of Santon Downham. Yet the village endured.
And farther along the forest road near Brandon stands an ancient burial mound.
The two guardians
Years ago, I was passing this mound when I saw something I have never forgotten.
Two deer stood together on its summit. One pure white. One pure black.
Both looked directly at me. Neither moved. Neither flinched.
Perhaps they were simply curious. Perhaps they were enjoying giving Doktor Snake something to think about. Either way, the encounter stayed with me.
For this New Year working, the two deer become the symbolic Guardians of the Balance: White and Black. Stillness and Motion. The known and the unknown. And between them, the Crystalline Pinpoint.
